So if you look into a room it doesn't (as far as I can tell) consider your light. The way majormud works, is if you can see the room while you stand in it, you can see the room when you look into it from an adjacent room.
Nightvision vs room light
One is using abilities or item abilities. in mud, being neko and looking north you can see barely visible. but walk into room with a lantern and its dimly lit or fully lit.
so that works. I was impressed to see it working. my goblin looks into a room and sees barely visible, yet with my gold jeweled ring the room I am in is dimly lit, more light.
So are you saying it works as it should? If you are sure, say so and this should be deleted... or moved to Hall of Shame.
There are several factors that come into play here, but Majormud works exactly the same way. I'd say off hand no bug here.

Its possible that there is a bug, there are multiple abilities to increase room light and they all work in different ways, we'd need more info, items/spells/races.
No, this is definitely not working right. I don't really have a way to test how it works on a majormud board, but here's the details of my char.
Kang (no room light)
Only light item: gold jeweled ring.
Can see current room.
Cannot see adjacent room.
Both current room and adjacent room have the same room light.

In your example, the 1st room does not say "Room is dimly lit" but the room you looked into says "Room is dimly lit" when you walked into it. So it seems, from what you provided, that the light is in fact different in the two rooms since you were (I'm guessing) wearing your gold jeweled ring in both rooms.
good call. but still, i'm 100% sure this is not how it should be.
I may be wrong, but with only a GJR for room light, and no night vision on your character, I think it's working properly.
I have a kang on another board, I'll do some testing tonight or tomorrow and see how it works in V1.11p
Ok I played with this some today with my kang. It worked the same way. GJR provides light in the current room only. The only way I could see into a dark room was to cast halo 1st then look.
you're wrong. on gmud as a hog mystic, i stood in sleazy shopkeeper's room with gjr. I could see the current room. I look east and it was pitch black.

Looks like the room you were standing in was pitch black prior to the ring also. I *think* that the room outside the sleezy has more light, but I'm not sure on that. I'm wondering if maybe the light in the current room is affecting your ability to see into ajoining rooms... It's possible. Vitoc would have to look at the code though to be sure.
