So... I have noticed this on and off for a while but can't 'make it happen' .. it just happens.
I have heard others talk about this as well. Most often it seems to be a '0' but I have seen many random characters.
i did not type the 'e,' below, it just randomly appeared. Mega stops responding as it thinks you've typed this and is waiting for you to press enter or keep typing... you can not delete the characters, and when you press enter you do not submit those characters as commands or talking.

I've seen this a few times myself. It looks like the ANSI reset code isn't always being sent/processed properly.
I've never seen it but my character is just a baby. But i never saw it on any of his other incarnations..

A good example of where this extremely annoying occurance happens is on the door level of the pyramid.
Does it happen elsewhere?
In my case i was in the webbed lair however i have not seen it there very often.
My guess is it's another issue tied to the room spells.
I believe that room spells (both dmg/bless/debuff based and atmospheric ones) are responsible for:
Extra Characters
Considerable lag
More dmg than is appropriate
The ocassional spell that doesn't wear off as it's supposed to
I got these random chars in the door change room - great pyramid a couple of days ago. When I next go through I will check again.
