Title: Weather
Post by: ghaleon on May 05, 2006, 08:14:20 AM
What do you guys think about this idea. (This is just a thought)

The weather in MajorMUD was basically a line that depending on the room you were in, was displayed every few minutes.

What if, lets say druid spells such as icestorm or lightning storm, when cast were heard in the distance ;)

You cast lightning storm and others in the surrounding areas would hear,
QuoteYou hear the crash of thunder in the distance!

or if a druid cast earthquake
QuoteThe ground slightly trembles beneath you!

or if a druid casts sunlight
QuoteThe sun begins to grow brighter in the sky!

Just a thought. It would be a way for people to know things were going on around them that they might be interested in checking out.

I like the idea.  No idea how DC could determine "nearby" (not just adjacent) rooms.  Maybe a recursive DoThisInNextRoom, counter-- sort of thing.
Also would be cool to extend it to other classes:

You hear the clash of combat nearby.
A ray of sunshine peeks through the clouds (priestly healing)
The clouds gather and darken (priestly attack spell)

etc.

Of course you couldn't do this for EVERY attack EVERY  round.  Maybe a 5% chance of an event being broadcasted (for lack of a better word).  Otherwise it would be a royal pain if you were scripting nearby someone else.

I do like this idea.  And its something we'll see about adding later.  ATM detail oriented ideas aren't topshelf.
