Title: Bugzilla Status
Post by: Vitoc on May 16, 2006, 12:48:20 PM
It's becoming increasingly clear that a forum section is a little less than ideal for a bug management solution.? The main issue is trying to prioritize bugs and things that are missing in the engine.? Sifting through threads trying to find the most important ones is time consuming and frustrating.

Locke mentioned Bugzilla a while back, but we didn't have a server to run it on.? A friend of mine just said he will try to get a box running where we can run Bugzilla.? I haven't looked at the software in detail, but if it allows ranking bugs and marking bugs as completed, I'm all for it.?

I'll continue to work on the bugs listed in this section in the meantime.

Will keep everyone posted.

Sourceforge was mentioned a while back, whilst open-sourcing the project was being discussed.

I don't know much at all about Sourceforge, so feel free to ignore this entirely, but couldn't you create a Sourceforge project, without putting the source up there (or bunging some bogus source code up there the formats your hard drive or gives you a virus), and use it solely for bug tracking and forums?

Or has this been thought of and discarded for an extremely obvious and valid reason that I'm not seeing?

QuoteSourceForge.net provides free hosting to Open Source software development projects.

It sounds like they probably won't want our non-open-source project using their site's features.  :(

You could rectify that. :P

It's only illegal if you get caught.

And as I said, you could always put up some bogus source.  Of anything.  I think I've got the source for Doom2 lying around :)

Let me know if you need help. I've built/ran many bugzilla servers. My company was running bugzilla and we just moved to Jira due to better integration with CVS.  I can even host it if need be.

You'd get a cookie for that.  Our current web server/host doesnt seem to like it.  Vitoc was going to get around to putting it on an old computer but he has alota coding to do for other things.

Ugh... wanted to do it last night, but didn't have enough time to get it set up.? Will try to get the box running at the very least tonight.? Depending on how easy it is to install we might be able to start using it tonight.? Once it's set up my friend volunteered to host it (because 4 computers in a 1 bedroom apartment is enough), but thanks for the offers everyone.
