Guards not attacking Good/Neutral

When I attact a guard to make myself neutral again, they do not fight back.  Not that I mind ;)

How are you making yourself neutral?  This isn't typical, to go from evil to neutral mid-fight...

Not going from evil to neutral, I am trying to go back to neutral from good.  But they don't fight back when I attack them.
