A week or two ago I remember thinking about how I hadn't seen a BSOD since Windows 98.? I thought about it for a bit and then came to one conclusion; it was ancient history, that I would never see that lovely white text on a blue background.? Turns out I was wrong...

Scratacorn sent a brand new Athlon 64 CPU and a packaged 2 x 512 meg RAM set, both of which I received yesterday.? After installing Windows 2003 Server and doing the initial setup with no problems, I went to sleep while SQL Server 2005 was installing.? Woke up this morning to a lovely BSOD informing me a machine_check_exception had occurred.? Doing some Googling it looks like that narrows it down to one or more of the following:

1) HD
2) RAM
3) DVD Rom drive
4) Video card
5) CPU
6) Mobo (or any of it's onboard components)
7) PSU
8 ) Drivers (damn you smiley)
9) Just about every other component in the computer I haven't listed

So yeah, in case any of you were wondering if the BSOD still exists... it does.

Errors like this are soooooo much fun to track down.  :D

TGS v1.0 (coming soon)

Lol ya I know its still there. The BSOD loop is even worse sometimes now because there isn't an effective safe mode to look at things in.

Ran the RAM through memtest and it passed.  Swapped video cards and updated the mobo drivers.  Got SQL server installed.  The old GMUD realm is back up.  So far, so good.
