I'm retiring. You're mostly degenerates and miscreants but there is an undeniable sense of fraternity here. I was happy to be among you.

Me and Teferi tried to breathe some new life into this project by buying it from Vitoc. He wanted $10,000. This was in February 2015. We countered with a lot less than that. To us there is no commercial value, but there was some value in it as a hobby. Our offer represented an honourarium of sorts - a token of appreciation for all the hard work he's put in. We never heard back on the counter.

We probably wouldn't have been the best shepherds anyway, being as we dislike most of you. But you're mudders and we've all stuck it out this long. There is some kind of highly ethereal value in that.

I hope this game lives forever.

Toodles,

Ptery/Viv/Watts

P.S. The current Ptery is not me.

Rescue the mistreated, save the injured, love the abandoned.

I'm not far from joining you.  Peace!

This game has been a WIP since day 1. Best of intentions but worst of outcomes.

No one was willing to pick majormud back up from scratch.

I really just wish the bugs had have been sorted out, so we could simply create user-based content and have it either accepted, rejected, or modified. I would have made an area called 'Weed Fields' where you fight hash giants and shamans. They can critically smoke you for a good 50 damage.

Life happens sometimes.  Most games that are kept running are works in progress.  When they aren't in progress anymore, that's usually when they're at or near the end of their lifecycle and they go bye-bye.

You'll note the last build with changes was July 10th, just under 2 weeks ago.  I took a stab at fixing mobs casting combat/evil between round spells in protected rooms.  I also upgraded everything to .NET 4.6 and have been working in VS2015.  FWIW, I'm about to move GreaterMUD to the cloud where I already have my other side project hosted, so latency should decrease and uptime should increase.

I know it's moving slower than some of you are comfortable are with, and I understand the frustration.  I constantly have to weigh spending time on a project that will net me $0 vs. a project that will make me lots of money and get me out of the 40+ hr / week grind and let me be with my family more with more free time.

If you'll stick around for a bit I'll be revealing my side project in not too much longer.  I think it will make telnet and, more importantly, MegaMUD obsolete as far as GreaterMUD goes, even if it is under a different name.  It will be free to play, maybe more than just the free experience for those that have stuck with us through the years.  I'll probably ask for some people to take a peek at it and give some feedback over the next month.

TGS v1.0 (coming soon)

I personally am just happy someone is willing to host majormud(greatermud) out of their own pocket with little (or no) income in return.
I like how the game is... And am glad people are keeping it alive. I hope you do so for a long time to come. It's very nostalgic to me.
Thank you Vitoc.

Thanks for that.  I plan on keeping it alive indefinitely <insertThumbsUpSmileyHere>  :)
