Thinking about it logically, "you don't think you are sneaking" doesn't seem to make sense. if i tell my char to sneak then he should *attempt* it when switching rooms -- not while in it. Sneaking is something you do while moving from room-to-room (i.e., while moving), right?

Hiding should be something you do while in a room. "You don't think you are hidden" seems appropriate. You may find a hiding spot but not think it's adequate enough.

Can someone comment?

Even though the game seems very 1 demensional, realistically your character doesnt stand in 1 spot in a room.

The only way i could see this working that "you dont think your sneaking" would be if he saw a path that looked like you could move quietly thru it but then saw something that would cause you to have to make noise. maybe theres one too many twigs there now or the orc warlord left his favorite clows horn on the floor and you just noticed it. so you dont think you are would be you dont think you will be. but i agree that it shouldnt be there. doesnt make much sense

DC, by that logic then wouldn't you also be making noises and alerting people to your presence even if you don't do any actions? For example, wouldn't I expect to see messages like "You stub your toe and yell out "fuck" alerting everyone of your presence."  ???

I never really thought about it but I guess I just assumed that when you entered a "room" that you kind of walked to the center of it, unless you hid, and then took the straight path out of the room.

There are two types of sneak in the game.
Type one you are in a single room and sneaking
Type two you are move from room to room and sneaking.

When the game engine gives you this message, "you don't think you are sneaking" it is referring to type one stealth and its just letting you know for some reason you might not be sneaking. It could be anything from you made a small noise to the lighting was wrong for you to blend into the shadows. This is because type one stealth is like a hide however your not just standing still but are actively just lurking around the outskirts of the room doing nothing in particular.

The game engine does not alert other people about failed attempts at stealth type one because you don't actively broadcast your intentions of not being seen. It simply treats you as if you were just hanging around the room making the same noises that anyone else in the room would be making. This is different from stealth type two when moving between rooms because stealth cancels the entrance and exit messages which are what the game uses to show activity/intention. Therefore there is something of importance to alert people of.
