With the scheduled release of GreaterMUD v1.0 just a couple months away, we are no closer to entering a deal with Metro to distribute their content.

If anyone has any suggestions for custom sets of content that could be shipped with copies of GMUD, please let me know. I'm willing to compensate the author(s) for every copy of their content that ships with GMUD for a negotiated price. We will add your content to a list of available content sets which will be listed on our official website.

If you're an author and you are interested or even if you're a player in a realm that has awesome custom content and you'd like to recommend that content, please send me a PM.

TGS v1.0 (coming soon)

This could get interesting with many different realms with different content,a few come to mind. A trek version, star wars or even if your a big fan a lord version.
How hard will it be to import the content of say like the current major mud from my current mud realm?
You are right i payed for mud I should be able to use the content.
All we need is a budding writer with lots of time on their hands  :)

the real question is, why not dare em to sue you and ship with their content anyways. Seriously. It would be a fun thing to see.

Eventually their avoidance tactics will work against them in a legal sense and they can lose the right to stop you. Its happened before. and seriously, the data files are a shadowy legal thing anyways. It would be like the tolkien estate suing everyone that uses elves in their stories...

If I remember correctly, the Original Dungeons & Dragons game (published in dragon magazine) had the first publishing of the Elves.. not Tolkien.  But I agree with ya :)

Should find out if DC would be willing just to trim down the custom content he was working on to just be the main starting area (you know just the main loop and the small starting village). It would be better then nothing even if it doesn't cover the vast expance of levels.

Most of my content ideas revolve around stuff that hasn't been worked into the game engine yet... I.e self building/expanding realms, user constructable items, play variable areas... So I can't really offer a viable version 1 solution for the interim period. However would be happy to work on a solution later on...

I can manage that rather quickly.  I just have a small issue in that I have no internet access from home now that I'm living in.  Although that is apparently not the case anymore, I just havent got it set up yet.  Just heard that I can now get broadband here, so I got all excited and decided to log on at work :P

Very cool....

I think I'd go rather nutz with out internet access from home....

NMR (Nightmare Redux) is a free application and it can export the dats from any MajorMUD realm to an Access format.
I wrote a converter that migrates data from that exported NMR Access file to the native GMUD format, and this converter will be 100% free for everyone to download.

How hard will it be?  Not very. ;)

Nobody's going to go after each individual user that decides to obtain and use copyrighted content.  However, a single person distributing their content without their permission would have a big fat target on their chest.  Me distributing their content with GMUD could be exactly the sort of mistep they've been waiting for me to make.  I'm not going to distribute it without their permission, but I have no way of stopping others from obtaining and using it.

As you mentioned, that avoidance tactic they've used for years is still going to work against them.  When v1.0 ships, I'm willing to bet people will start pirating MajorMUD content if it's not bundled with GMUD.  Through their own inaction, Metro is missing out on an opportunity to profit from our project for years to come without investing any time or effort.  They're also missing a chance to unload the "burden" of a pissed off community onto someone else.

I suppose thats true. Metro continues to be jackasses. isnt it a nice thing to see?  I mean, some things never change.

TGS v1.0 (coming soon)

Their probably just waiting for an MMORPG company to come forward and say "I wanna make this into a graphical MMORPG!" and sell the license for big bucks, or claim royalities off it, never know.
