Is "flee" incorporated at all? Can chars panic and flee if damaged enough, or if they lose a save against surprise; or do monsters panic and run if heavily damaged?

Respond with small words....I've been watching Blue's Clues all morning.

Edited to make use of English words and phrasing. It's too early.

Ah, what a great idea...fleeing. for the monsters away. would certainly make scripting more difficult and I'm not sure how mega would like that. But the people stuck on megamud and scripting aside, I love the idea.

OK, so it isn't in use in the current system....maybe I should take this over to the Ideas forum then.

After I find that 3rd pawprint, that is....must...find...a clue....

Well characters can run away but your stuck typing it n enter n enter n enter.....

Well, I was thinking if you are engaged in combat you would automatically follow.
"...There was always a minority afraid of something, and a great majority afraid of the dark, afraid of the future, afraid of the past, afraid of the present, afraid of themselves and shadows of themselves..." --Ray Bradbury, The Martian Chronicles

This is basicly how it works:

you engage combat, next the swings start comming:
Now if you flee:
if it is a monster it has a chance follow.
if it is a player they have to keep up with the person that flees if they can't combat dis-engages.

Most monsters will not wonder out of the room when in combat but sometimes they will however they never go too far.

Monsters could flee when low on hps in majormud if the person making the monster knew what they were doing :p.  But its not a normal thing for monsters to do.

grin thats kinda what I was getting at thanks for clearing that up..

I don't know....running away seems like a pretty normal thing to me if you are outmatched and nearly dead. I mean, it worked for Monty Python.

For characters to flee, I think that if you got to a certain bottom %age of your hp you'd have a chance of panicking and bolting off at random.

players can flee if they want, megamud will let you set a flee percent for hp but beyond that its really up to the player..

The only monsters that I had flee were like a few bosses, like a high priest who liked to run away summon/heal his minons and return and a few bosses that specialized in stealth, so they could run around trying to backstab. (that was complicated btw) ?I made use of monsters runing alot in some of the 'dramatic' scences i put into the game. ?There was one fleeing peasent that ran by and then get killed by the ogre-archmage chasing him..and there is a battle between 2 ninjas in which they run around alot.

Monsters running would end up being really annoying though. ?I don't know that it be a good thing to add in for all monsters to do.

Rofl, I don't think she was ever talking about allowing players to run.

it was kinda hard to tell I always say player "PC" or NPC for system characters..

Well, no, I never questioned whether or not the players could run or not. What I described above I suppose would be better labeled as "panic"...I think I said that...maybe...I don't want to scroll down to look.

And yes, if every monster could flee it would be annoying...I was thinking... 0.5-1% chance of fleeing. Certain monsters wouldn't, certain monsters would.

I refer to PC as PC, player, or character (or char because everyone loves abbreviations)
NPCs are generally non-combat beings in the game...used mostly for atmosphere and information
Monsters are anything you fight.
Obviously yhe lines between NPC and monsters are a bit blurry, but if i say monster than I don't mean a PC.

Pc=player
npc=anything in the monster database.

I like to call them mobs. Just to make things confusing.
