Storm Giant Commanders room.  1 Storm Giant Commander, 5 Storm Giant

If you a storm giant you will engage the commander (partial match) before you engage the Storm Giant (full match).  Then you will get pwned.

I think majormud works that way too..I think you need fat/happy/stupid to defenestrate, <--i typod and this is what it wanted to make it..jajaja.

No. In this particular instance (in mmud), you would attack the normal storm giant because it matched his full name.  Gard's right, it's a bug.

I really could be wrong but I think in mmud it would just hit the first monster in the list that works with storm giant.  I know for a fact that I've been in the commanders room killing storm giants and targeted the commander on accident.
But i think greatermud SHOULD target the storm giant.  MMUD might think that 'storm giant' is a better match for storm giant commander than it is for jesus worshiping storm giant

From my test board:

Storm Fortress, Planning Room
Also here: storm giant commander, fat storm giant, fat storm giant, storm
giant, storm giant, storm giant.
Obvious exits: open door west
[HP=848/MA=166]:a storm giant
storm giant moves to protect storm giant
*Combat Engaged*
The fat storm giant bludgeons you for 29 damage!
The fat storm giant bludgeons you for 41 damage!
The fat storm giant bludgeons you for 21 damage!
The fat storm giant bludgeons you for 28 damage!
The fat storm giant bludgeons you for 35 damage!
The fat storm giant bludgeons you for 51 damage!
storm giant strikes the stormmetal bracers together!
White lightning shoots out frying you for 73 damage!
The storm giant bludgeons you for 47 damage!
The storm giant bludgeons you for 37 damage!
The storm giant all-out smashes you for 148 damage!
The storm giant swings at you with their stormhammer, but you dodge!
The storm giant swings at you with their stormhammer, but you dodge!
The storm giant bludgeons you for 36 damage!
You slice and dice storm giant for 23 damage!
You critically slice and dice storm giant for 226 damage!
You swing at storm giant!
You critically slice and dice storm giant for 260 damage!
You slice and dice storm giant for 34 damage!

Kow got pwned.

You sure?  It targetted "fat storm giant" over "storm giant".  There *IS* an error in MMuds targeting.

Yeah, it will first try to target the monster who's full name matches the input, regardless of prefix. If nothing matches, it proceeds through the list.

I know for a fact that I have typed 'A storm giant' and targetted the commander first.  I of course recall this because that room is one of the few, if not the only, room in the game where it really matters.

I think in  cases of prefixed mobs, if all the giants are prefixed and you attack storm giant then it does behave as DC said.  And rightfully so.  However with no prefix the engine should target a complete match before a partial match.

Case in point, Giant Roc, Roc, Roc Hatchling all in one room  in that order.  attacking roc should not attack the Giant Roc first.  Agreed?

You sure? Take another look Kow, I've snipped it and put the important parts below.

I'm pretty sure Gardner hit it on the head where if all the mobs are prefixed, then it will attack the commander, because he fits 'storm giant' better than 'fat storm giant.'

MMUD's targeting works just fine.

I'm pretty sure you attacked a FAT storm giant....and a normal STORM GIANT walked inbetween.  Thus you hit a normal STORM GIANT and the fat one just attacked you.  But I'm drunk and never really knew what i was talking about anyway.

3 things:

1) I'm assuming the fucker was because you realized I was right?

2) It wasn't me that posted the cap, I'm just arguing with you because I love pointing out when you're wrong, because honestly it's pretty rare.

3) The fat storm giant attacked...for a reason unknown to me. Might have happened before the cap, but since I didn't cap it I have no idea. Either way, it has no bearing on this argument.

1 I'm not wrong.

2 You are wrong.

3 Any questions?

Yes -- How long have you been an alcoholic, and what are you doing about it?
