Package Deal

This idea has to do with implement help from volunteers in a progressive way; that is, letting people create content without any hidden advantages, or requiring the volunteer to get too involved (or over their head).  The main purpose behind this principle is to have an accelerated productivity in the creative department. One thing I take into consideration is that Vitoc probably transitioned all of the majormud content to his c sharp or whatever code by exporting/importing MME data (excel sheets).

Package Deal - A limited contribution that consists of items/monsters/rooms (any one of which is called an entry)

 There are three main points for this concept:
-Anyone can submit a "Package"
-The Package will be voted on by everyone, with coder's opinion being the last judgement.
-A Package is considered a minor source of content and will not be larger than set parameters. For example, not more than 5 items per package.

Steps to submit a Package: 1. Create all information about every entry in a standardized form (designated by a coder). Room descriptions, weapon ranges, possible exits, etc.   2. Give a short passage about the information you created. Why did you do such and such, what were your intentions. 3. Post the information in a very easy to read format on this forum. The goal would be to fit as much information into the smallest post possible. The name of the Package will be in a standardized format. IE LVL 0-10 Polearm Package A   *Post it as a POLL.  4. People will vote, and a set duration of time will run before it is considered. Polls will be ACCEPTED or NOT ACCEPTED. There are no "changes"; a package is completely rejected or completely accepted. Any adjustments required will be a NEW POLL, with the changes.

Here is an example of a package.  The information is not accurate/balanced in this example, BUT YOURS WOULD BE.

0-10 lvl Wooden Armor Set

This armor set is to accomodate the leather class for DR, of course with drawbacks.

A half-ogre druid would like this set because of its DR. A goblin gypsy might not want this because of the reduced stealth, as well as scripting in the lava fields. This set adds to the versatility of armor selection without major advantages.

Description(s):
  This wooden {slot} was crafted by the famous Skali. Although it is rigid, it was designed with human range of motion in mind. It might offer a little more protection than standard issue leathers.

At this point the post would be a poll, and peope could casually vote on the set, yay or nay. If it met a certain percentage of votes within a timeline, the coder would make a decision and comment why or why not he chose so. Packages that do not exceed minimum reqs' would not require care by the coder.

just an idea..
Also could make it a Quest to get this like Fangblade? sure something can be thought of.. like  tarnished chainmail hauberk, and silvery plate corselet forged together? Or just have a Champion, like Black Knight of some sort after u kill them drops this Armour , which u can also sell at a shop, but does not Regen at those shops. Now if a Black Knight Champion could make it Evil and can have +5 Prgd that would make it different

(Test play and tweak as necessary, as I never had the time or opportunity to test it on my own BBS)

Excarkun, no offense, but that is trash. The purpose of this idea isn't to throw random shit around and hope it gets accepted. Make a nice, concise package, that people can look at, instead of just assume you made it up in an edited Realm to get a semi. 1handed 26-60? You're really making my idea look bad.

these are noting but ideas from another forum that looked similar to what u wanted. IF YOU Don't like DONT READ IT.
I figured others can look at them, and use them, change them or even come up with there own and make your packages. Furthermore, You and me are Not doing the coding here, and it's neither of our choices what goes into Mod 10-11 or so on. From my understanding it Deathcows and others that will deiced what goes in what doesn't no matter what others vote for.
But I may be wrong, wont be the first or last time that will happen.

Lets try to keep this conversation constructive.  Item contributions are always welcome, so long as they have all aspects covered including descriptions.  I really hated making brand new descriptions for every item in the game when I was working on the clean slate realm, so items with desc get special priority. :P

I'll send you my Ancient Sword of DragonFire....    Think flame tongue ;-)  only better!

(Cough again) the best way to do package deals like this is to post them in the editing resources forum section with out stats attached to them... Like DC hinted at saying descriptions are often the hardest part to come up with and there for the most needed resourse to people creating resources for the game.

I very much agree on keeping it positive and really stats are a touchy issue with most so it's easier to just leave them off and let the developers take the heat for them. Keep the descriptions comming though.
