Are stupid here.  Its so easy to fix.

I get it! Your solution is so clearly laid out...

::)

Looks like the only solution that will be implemented in the near (or not so near) future.

I'm pretty sure I know what the problem is.  And if I'm right it shouldn't be that hard to fix.  Now we just have to find the time to do the work.

I reported this bug a year or more ago. Don't hold your breath. The only person who cares noticeably about development is Gardner, and I'm pretty sure he's not allowed to write code or even look at the majority of it. Sad, isn't it? The only guy who cares isn't allowed to help other than a secretary capacity.

Too bad open source is the devil

Too bad most people view open source as simply a way to get free shit.

The "only guy who cares" has a wildly different schedule than "the guy who started this project."

Go back through our version history for the past year alone and then tell me I don't care.  32+ updates I think I count for the past year alone?  How many updates have been made to MajorMUD in the past several years?  Ask me how much I've made on this project.  Ask me how much I've spent on broadband, domains, and hardware, let alone what I've spent on development time and necessary software.

If the roof over your head is free, if your internet and electricity are free, if you don't have anyone to support, if you have all the time in the world because you aren't working a full work week (or any work week), or maybe if you're just sucking off the teat of America and actual taxpayers like me then be my guest, go find another project that's doing it better or start your own open source project and show me how it's done.

I'm trying my hardest.  If that's not good enough for you, go find another project.

In all honesty I think releasing greatermud to the public would be a travesty.  The PVP realm (although it has some damning unbalances) is the best PVP has ever been.

The community is just not large enough to support many realms and the more that go up would only disperse the few players that are left.  Not trying to spark another debate about this because there have been many... just stating my opinion.

It's ok to let someone help if you're so overloaded, Vitoc. You have a wealth of human resources here and you refuse to put them in action. This could either be due to ignorance or hubris, but frankly it can't be because of much else. I simply call it how I see it. You want full credit, yet you don't even understand many of the mechanics of the mud you're trying to program, as showcased in the ways you've set many things up.

Maybe instead of having a holier-than-thou attitude and assuming (and making an ass out of you at minimum) you know all, you should stoop down to the level of the lowly users who might have the extra input to make sure that in 32 patches you actually fix 32 things right the first time. Where did the idea for diminishing returns AND the open source formula you based your shit on come from? We both know you CAN'T do this alone.

We play this game. You don't play and it clearly shows. You're so out of touch with what's actually happening with your engine that you become publicly defensive when people recommend changing flawed mechanics (such as the random number algo). You rarely respond to any of the user's concerns, basically ignoring them until you yourself are defensive and feel cornered.

LET YOUR USERS HELP. LISTEN TO THEM. LET GARDNER DO THINGS. HE ACTUALLY CARES. The only one who thinks this project is about Vitoc is Vitoc. I guarantee you the vast majority of us are not looking for another Metropolis by a different name.

This is the biggest mud board around now. There are lots of users on both realms. Imagine now if Gardner decided he'd wasted enough time babysitting and left. Where would Gmud be? Wake up and use the resources around you. They aren't permanent.

I could have sworn that we had made it clear that we are not interested in making greatermud open source.  This thread has gone way off topic.
