Not that it's very important but I thought I'd write a short thread to express my opinions towards how I like to handle things. This way everything is out on the table, and you know what to expect.

I pretty much have the same views as Gardner on most things. It's of course impossible to please everyone, so I generally lean towards whats the best for the overall longevity of the realm, whether my own, or GMUD, both of which I'm quite fond of.

PVP Realm

On the PVP Realm there is obviously very little MudOp interference, as per both my own opinion and rules set down by the Sysops.

EP's I would likely never change. They wear off themselves, and you don't even have to wait for cleanup for alignment to change like in MMUD.

Adding lives would have to be the result of some sort of error in the game, and I would likely check in with the Sysop before doing so.

In regards to item location, currently the limited list needs fixing, and requests for item locations will have to be answered by one of the Sysops, as the Mudops do not have access to that info at the time. When it is fixed, I will let you know if an item is either on a user, in a room, or neither of those two. If you have died and are having a hard time finding your gear (i.e. you died on the lake somewhere), I will help you locate is as long as I'm sure it's your gear, and you can narrow the location down to a fairly specific spot.

For now, anything regarding limited item sweeps, cleanup, etc will be handled by the Sysops.

No items, spells, etc will be 'conjured' or given, nor will components be replaced if a quest is done improperly. Some quests that require a certain amount of components (i.e. dragon hides, orc heads) may take all the money/components and return nothing if all required components are not on the user at the time they are turned in. Again, if there is some sort of error in the game, please notify me and try to have some sort of 'evidence' and we will work something out.

Non PVP Realm

On the Non PVP Realm the MudOps have a lot more flexibility on game manipulation.

Teleport, alignment, and additional life commands are already in place and are surely familiar to everyone.

In this realm, there is no item hording allowed. You are allowed one limited item per slot and cannot possess limited items that you can not use. No limiteds may be kept in ganghouses and will be removed quickly. More info on this can be found in the rules thread, which is stickied.

If you are looking for a certain item and it is in use, I will let you know that. Limited items are regularly cleaned up from the floor and off of users who shouldn't have them. If you have limiteds that you shouldn't you will likely be notified first. If we can't get in touch with you, there is the chance they may be removed, so try not to keep items that may belong to one of your characters on another character. I know for encumbrance purposes that is sometimes necessary, but my general take on limited items is, if you're not wearing it, you don't need it that bad.

If an item you are looking for is on the floor, I will flush it and you can start going after the boss.

I know from time to time Gardner gives out quest components and other items such as orc-heads, black diamonds, etc. While each Op is allowed to do things according to his own opinion, I would prefer to see players obtain these components themselves. What fun is having all the hardest parts of the game done for you. While there isn't PVP, some players are still competitives in regards to the top list and giving out components in my opinion isn't fair. There are, in some cases, items that never seem to drop, but I'd like to see that you've at least made an attempt. Example, you've scripted Lost City for a week and still haven't gotten a nature tap scroll. Once all the quests are complete, you have nothing left to do. So helping you speed through these only makes the game less interesting, so try to do most of the stuff yourself, a lot of the fun in this game comes from finally completing quests.

If you get killed and lose your items, you have plenty of time to get them back as there is no deathpile raiding allowed. If there are limited items in your deathpile and you don't have time to recover them immediately, please let an Op know so we don't flush them thinking they were forgotten about. In some cases I will be glad to help you clear a room and get your deathpile back, but at least make an effort to do it on your own once or twice.

Dupes, Bugs, & Exploits - Both Realms

Follow the rules in regards to dupes. To restate them, you may have 1 characters on the PVP Realm. On the Non PVP Realm you may make a second character when your first reaches level 25, and a third when both characters reach 50.

MudOps have no access to IP addresses, but if I have suspicious of dupes, I will notifiy the Sysops to take a closer look.

While my authority on bug use is fairly limited, I would prefer to not see them exploited, and if I do I will likely notify the Sysops and let them decide what to do.

There will of course be things in the game that aren't exactly bugs in the normal sense of the word, but still allow players to gain an unnatural amount of cash or experience. These things should be reported and not abused. If you're questionable about something, as to whether or not it should be done, ask one of the Ops first.

Examples include but are not limited to scripting regen rooms that shouldn't be there, mining tons of diamonds because there is no delay, buying and selling items for a profit, etc...

I know there are various ways to use exploits to one's advantage in PVP.

Some attacks do not display a message as it should. A lot of these things can still be prevented by some creative MegaMud configuring.

Just don't do it. If you're playing in the PVP Realm, chances are you like this game alot. By using bugs to dominate and piss people off, it's only going to reduce the amount of people in the realm. Yes, it's a competitive game, but we aren't exactly gaining new blood. So don't do stuff that is going to drive away users. It's only going to hurt you in the long run. The less people that play, the less chance we have at progress being made.

Way to start off on the right foot.

Nice post I agree with 99%, but what I dont agree with is the Megamud related "exploits" if you are too noob to have added a message for a weapon that was added in a latter mod then you deserve to die. You dont have to use megamud, you can use any telnet client you wish. I fully support killing out meganoobs.

Maybe I didn't word things correctly, but I totally agree. Though it is the main platform used, no one is forcing anyone to use MegaMud, and if something can be configured in MegaMud to prevent getting killed, then by all means, it should be allowed. BUT some of these things still shouldn't occur in the game. For example, certain spells that do not give a 'moves to attack' message. Whether or not one is using MegaMud, the spellcaster still gets the chance to get a free round off that he normally wouldn't have, well at least not without a message giving the person being attacked a chance to hang/flee.

Since scripts/MegaMud have almost always been the norm, the people who can configure them the best will do the best in the game, and I think that's fair.

Our "official" position on Megamud related bugs is this:

Failure to properly setup Megamud is your fault, not ours.

That's from the rules post.

Yeah I know these spells I set the spell message to hang on site, and its a pain as some npcs have the same one, or its effect like you are blind.

This is a beta, if there are bugs, find them, do not use them to wreck the game, megamud is a tool outside of the control of the game, if you have problems with it speak to Merlin, or develop your own tools, if you die to anything related to any tools you use in the mud, that is your fault. THERE IS A REALLY GOOD GAME FOR PEOPLE WHO JUST WANT SCRIPT 24/7 CHECK IT OUT:

I found another one...

   http://www.greatermud.com/

   VERY EASY TO SCRIPT

Even in the PVP realm that's all anyone does.  For Reference look at Players online and Alignment.

I just started a Double Wookie Tongueblade!

damn you guys are leaving mud for this game

Where else can you execute large porn elementals while searching for the arcane fleece? I'm lvl 14. I got some porn elemental lube from that too.

Would be easier to play GreaterMUD if it hadn't become such a joke.  Seriously.. Up there with Metro is fail.
