The issue is that MegaMUD tries to drop gold when set to discard, and it doesn't allow it to drop.

I had the digit limit for dropping and getting money set to 3.  I've bumped it up to 6 in the latest build, so you're limited to getting or dropping 999,999.  If you need to pick up more than a million pieces of currency at once, we've got other problems. ;)
