Player names

Shouldn't be able to match a monsters name...

Ok, so we have mob names and exit direction names.

The only other thing I can think of off the top of my head is item names.  Anything else that shouldn't be allowed as a name?

Mob as well as NPC (such as Meia). Exits, and possibly some items (such as Lever, Switch, Button, Table) ?

npc's are concidered mobs.

Those should probably be handled through a setting that allows the sysop/admin to configure additional disallowed names. OTOH, exits/monster names/item names/etc. can be pulled from the database (or, in the case of exits, are hardcoded and never change really).

look
bash
attack
pick
open
light

Again, this is where that master command list with dynamic alias matching would be REALLY handy.  Cos the player can't have an ALIAS for a command as a name either.  Eg Loo, lis, pic should not be allowed

Why should these not be allowed?  The only ones that shouldn't be allowed are ones that will prevent people from interacting with them properly or making someone not be able to do another command properly.  I believe any of those names in that list could be used just fine without causing any problems.

True, they probably could be used safely.  But they're not allowed in majormud.  And it would be confusing to see Look enter the room, or Help moves to attack you.

In the end it's up to you, and basically it will come down to personal preference, but I don't like it.

Thats less confusing than

You moves to attack you.
You crittically slices you for 100 damage!
You are dead.

and thats allowed in majormud.

To be fair, if MajorMUD does it we should probably do it too. So, if MMUD disallows names like "List" or "Open", then yeah, we should too.
